The Eccentric Press — Vinyl

Iain Chambers is a composer, performer and producer whose work draws on location sound as musical material. A founder member of musique concrète ensemble Langham Research Centre, his music is heard internationally in concerts, radio, multimedia productions and sound art installations.

The Eccentric Press comprises two pieces composed entirely from recordings by Sounds of Changes – a pan-EU project documenting the endangered sounds of industry and domesticity. A collaboration between six major European museums, its recordings are freely available to download and use.

These two symphonies of industrial sound were commissioned by WDR Cologne and ABC Radio National Australia. The source material is recognisable throughout, even when manipulated, juxtaposed or overlaid. Musical relationships emerge from sounds more often regarded as noise.

LP with digital download.
